NEW CARLISLE – Graham Local Schools Superintendent Norm Glismann has been hired as the next Tecumseh Local Schools superintendent, according to documents released on Friday by Tecumseh. He was among four finalists for the job.
Glismann’s hiring is expected to be confirmed at Tecumseh’s regular board meeting on June 30. He will begin his position on Aug. 1.
Glismann has been Graham’s superintendent since August 2009, according to his resume. He has 16 years of experience as a school superintendent. He previously was Yellow Springs Exempted Village Schools superintendent, a principal at Bryan High School, a superintendent at the Diocese of Galveston-Houston and a superintendent at Rochester (Minnesota) Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Winona (Minnesota).
Glismann told the Daily Citizen Friday night he is leaving Graham with “mixed emotions.”
“The students are wonderful and I loved going into the schools, visiting the classrooms and reading to the students,” he said. “We have a wonderful administrative team at Graham who puts the students first.
“I enjoyed working with the board that hired me and we had 4 1/2 good years together. We had obstacles to overcome but we did a lot of things. The finances are in good shape and we put in place good processes. I don’t mean to sound boastful, but I think the (Graham) district is in better shape than when I came.”
Graham’s board members learned of the Tecumseh hiring by word-of-mouth after information was released Friday.
“I’d like to wish Norm well in his new role at Tecumseh. The board will do an in-depth search (for his replacement). We will look at all options,” said Graham School Board President Steve Setty when contacted by the Daily Citizen Friday night. Graham has a board meeting scheduled on Monday and Setty expects discussions will begin then on Glismann’s replacement. Setty added the board is committed to having a superintendent in place as soon as possible.
Glismann holds a bachelor’s degree in English Education, a master’s degree in Educational Administration and a specialist’s certificate in Educational Administration and Supervision, all from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Lincoln, Nebraska. He has taught English in grades 8-12 and coached football, basketball, baseball, volleyball and track.
Former Tecumseh Superintendent Brad Martin pleaded guilty to theft in office, tampering with records and forgery charges in Clark County on April 29. The charges were related to a gambling addiction, according to local media reports. Court records indicate he is scheduled for sentencing June 30.
One of the other four superintendent finalist candidates, Paula Crew, is serving as interim superintendent at Tecumseh. She previously was director of special education and professional development at Tecumseh and was an assistant principal and special education teacher at Clark-Shawnee Local Schools. Crew holds a bachelor’s degree in Special Education, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and School Administration and an Educational Specialist Degree in Superintendent Administration, all from Wright State University.
Crew will remain with the district as assistant superintendent. “Tecumseh Local Schools is an excellent school district, and I am honored to continue to be a member of the administrative team as Assistant Superintendent,” Crew told the New Carlisle News. “We have an incredible staff, both certified and classified, that go above and beyond each and everyday to ensure our students receive the best possible education. We also have incredible community members, students, and parents at Tecumseh Local. I look forward to meeting and working with Mr. Glismann. I am excited to share all of the awesome things with him about Tecumseh Local Schools.”
