WL-S administrators receive pay raises

WEST LIBERTY – West Liberty-Salem Local Schools administrators received salary increases June 16 similar to those received by teachers and other union staff at the district.

The board approved the same base salary increase – 2 percent – as approved for certified and non-certified union staff for the upcoming school year at its June 17 meeting. They were also advanced to the next step on the salary scale.

The administrators who received raises include Superintendent Kraig Hissong (salary for the upcoming school year is $110,168), Treasurer Steve Godwin ($89,489), Elementary Principal Aaron Hollar ($84,821), Middle School/High School Principal Greg Johnson ($94,229), Assistant Principal Andy McGill ($76,261), Athletic Director Jake Vitt ($48,984), Curriculum Director Stacy Dunn ($72,500), Food Service Supervisor Kathy Smith ($38,555), and Maintenance/Transportation Supervisor Linda Harr ($48,858).

Treasurer’s office employees Chelsea Baldwin and Jeanie Crabtree received similar base salary increases and step increases as approved for the union staff and teachers for the next school year.

The board also approved two resolutions related to the building project, which would use dollars that would have been put to swing space for other things needed with the project, such as relocating water lines related to the fire suppression system and improving flooring throughout the building.

In other action, the board:

•Approved Rebekah Troyer as an additional 2014-15 resident educator mentor for $500.

•Approved Core Source as dental coverage provider and VSP as vision insurance provider for the 2015-16 school year. Rates will remain the same as last year.

•Approved breakfast and lunch price increases for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved Band Auxiliary coach Rebecca Roach at Step 1 for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved advancement of Anita Newman to the Masters column of the pay scale and to a continuing contract, beginning the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved Kyle Morris as an intervention specialist assigned to the high school at Step 0 of the bachelor’s degree column for a one-year contract for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved Sadie Beier as an intervention specialist assigned to the middle school at Step 7 of the bachelor’s degree +150 column of the for a one-year contract for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved corrected step adjustments for Brandie Roberts for the 2015-16 school year – Step 9 for Job Share high school science and Step 9 for part-time high school science.

•Approved Julie Nieman for the high school/middle school secretary position at Step 9 for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved Deidre Harman for the middle school science teacher position at Step 7 of the bachelor’s degree column for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved Jessica Haney for high school English teacher at Step 8 of the Masters degree column for a one-year contract for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved Chris Thornburg as a one-on-one dedicated para-professional at Step 1 of the negotiated agreement. This position is on an as-needed basis for a maximum 180-day contract.

•Approved hiring Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach Darrin Leichty at Step 3 and full-time Events Manager Stephanie Spencer at Step 2 for the 2015-16 school year.

•Accepted the resignation of fall High School Cheer Advisor Emily Hess.

•Approved hiring Head Girls Bowling Coach Jeremy Ryan at Step 1; Head Boys Wrestling Coach Dave Clem at Step 2; and Head Boys Bowling Coach Larry Searles and Head Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Dennis McIntosh, both at Step 3; for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved hiring Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach Lauren Tullis at Step 0 for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved Lori Milliron as a Job Share partner for Elementary PE Teacher Kim Hollar for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved Alysson Cotrell for a one-year contract renewal as Elementary Secretary at Step 11.

•Approved the overnight Band Camp trip to Bluffton University from July 27-31.

•Approved Jennifer Douthwaite for a one-year limited contract as Licensed School Nurse at Step 10 of the bachelor’s degree +150 column of the negotiated pay scale for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved the resignation of Leslie E. Gallagher-Kelly as a bus driver, effective July 1.

•Approved the service agreement for the 2015-16 school year between the Madison-Champaign Educational Service Center and the West Liberty-Salem Local School District.

•Accepted the resignation of Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach Scott Baldwin for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved a part-time Title I position for the 2015-16 school year to be used with a Reading Recovery grant to provide intensive reading intervention for at-risk students. The position will be funded with fiscal year 2016 Title I funds.

•Approved the resignation of Lori Inskeep, effective July 1.

•Approved granting the superintendent board authority as required due to time constraints to fill vacant positions required prior to presenting the recommended person to the board for approval, providing that all candidates meet all required qualifications. This authorization would extend to the regularly scheduled September board meeting, as needed. It is the intention of the board to approve all the recommended persons once they have been presented.

•Approved temporary appropriations for fiscal year 2015-16 in the amount of $15 million.

•Approved donations of $100 from Todd and Peggy Hormann for Athletics Volleyball, and $50 from Salem Alumni Association for Elementary Music.

•Approved continuing to use the Ohio School Plan through Stolly Insurance Group, Peter F. Stolly, CIC, as the district’s insurance carrier for Liability, Property, Violence and Vehicle Insurance coverage at a cost of $31,479, from July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016. The price is a 3.3 percent ($927) increase over the prior year.
