A man charged with drug possession following an Urbana Police Division investigation pleaded guilty to two felony charges Thursday.

Josiah D. Thrasher, 24, pleaded guilty to fifth degree felony charges of aggravated possession of drugs and possession of heroin during a plea hearing. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 1. Thrasher faces a maximum one-year prison sentence on each charge in addition to a mandatory driver’s license suspension.

Misdemeanor charges of possessing drug abuse instruments and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed.

Thrasher was one of three people indicted earlier this month in relation to a drug investigation in January.

Urbana police were investigating a disturbance over a reported theft of drugs case on Jan. 24 when two men being interviewed experienced medical issues.

Using information gathered from the interviews with the two men, police sought a search warrant for Cecil R. Farmer’s residence at 127 1/2 N. Main St. During their search, police recovered evidence of methamphetamine and prescription pills inside the residence.

The grand jury indictment contends that Farmer provided methamphetamine to Thrasher and Shawn M. Blackburn.

Farmer, 56, pleaded not guilty to two counts each of aggravated trafficking in drugs, aggravated possession of drugs and permitting drug abuse and one count of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia on Feb. 19. A final pretrial hearing in his case is scheduled for April 18.

Blackburn, 24, pleaded guilty to fifth degree felony charges of aggravated possession of drugs and possession of heroin on Feb. 5 and is scheduled to be sentenced on March 7.
