National Day of Prayer observed locally

In observance of the 70th annual National Day of Prayer, Champaign County will host a county-wide prayer service at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at Freedom Grove, at the intersection of South U.S. 68 and state Route 55, by the Champaign County Community Center.

The prayer service will follow a series of prayer walks in Urbana that focus on seven areas of community life:

-Military: 10 a.m. outside VFW/DAV Hall, 220 E. Court St. Led by Pastor Jacob Hayward.

-Government: 11:30 a.m., starting at the Champaign County Courthouse, 200 N. Main St., then proceeding to the Champaign County Community Center, 1512 S. U.S. 68. Led by Pastor David Ridenour.

-Church: noon to 12:30 p.m., prayer on Monument Square. Led by Pastor Tray Huntsman.

-Workplace: Noon at the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, 127 W. Court St. Led by Pastor Adrian Calhoun and Pastor Mike McKenzie.

-Education: 3:45 p.m. in front of Urbana Elementary School, 1673 S. U.S 68. Led by Margie Williams.

-Arts, Media, Entertainment: 4:30 p.m. outside the Gloria Theatre, 216 S. Main St. Led by Pastor Kyle Peters.

-Family: Starting at 5:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 228 Washington Ave. Led by Father Matthew Lee.

The theme of this year’s National Day of Prayer is “Lord Pour Out Your Love, Life, And Liberty,” based on 2 Corinthians 3:17: “Now the Lord is Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
