M’burg board approves staff actions

MECHANICSBURG – The Mechanicsburg Exempted Village Schools board approved several coaches and other staff appointments at its Monday meeting.

The board hired High School Football Head Coach Kurt Forrest, High School Volleyball Head Coach Kassie Coffman, High School Girls Golf Coach Kelly Weber and High School (fall) Cheer Head Coach Kim Poland for the 2017-18 school year.

The board also approved an extended absence for middle school/high school art teacher Stephen Magyar due to long-term military orders.

The board accepted resignations for seventh grade English Language arts teacher Don Cook and EMIS Coordinator Keitha Gano at the end of the 2016-17 school year.

The school board recognized student winners of a variety of awards, such as the state FFA Association state degrees, gold-rated officer books and public speaking awards. There were also commendations for winter athletics achievements.

In other action, the board:

•Approved Student Accident Insurance for the 2017-18 school year with Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company, Student Protective Agency.

•Accepted donations of $100 from The Hall Company for After Prom and $500 from the Mechanicsburg PTO to Dohron Wilson Elementary to help cover the costs of a building-wide field trip to Kuss Auditorium.

•Approved the extended day contract for 10 days for guidance counselor Dr. Carol Carpenter for the 2016-17 school year.

•Approved hiring High School Soccer Head Coach Matt Frost for the 2017-18 school year.
