Urbana University event looks at women’s rights and Bill of Rights

“The Framers, The Bill of Rights, and Women’s Rights: The Curious Relationships” will be presented by Dr. Thomas T. Taylor at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, in the Swedenborg Memorial Library at Urbana University. This presentation is part of Women’s History Month programming at the university. The library is located at 579 College Way.

Urbana University is currently hosting a pop-up exhibit, “The Bill of Rights and You!” part of “Amending America,” a national initiative exploring the power of the Bill of Rights and the country’s enduring system of government.

Taylor will discuss the relationships among the Constitution of 1787, the Bill of Rights of 1791 and the modern Bill of Rights and what all three had to do with women’s rights.

Taylor lives in Springfield with his, wife, Mechelle. A native southerner, he earned his Ph.D. in American Intellectual History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He teaches American history and constitutional history at Wittenberg University. Formerly, he was department chair and dean of the School of Community Education. He is a past president of the Ohio Academy of History and of the Clark County Historical Society.
