Graham board approves more strategic plan needs

ST. PARIS – Graham Local Schools is moving forward with plans to recruit talented staff.

The school board approved a Human Resources Plan and raises for substitute classified staff at its Monday meeting. Both items are part of the district’s plan to improve the district.

One of the goals is to attract and retain high quality staff members, Superintendent Kirk Koennecke said. Part of that goal includes providing competitive wages, and the board approved new hourly pay rates – $15 for substitute bus drivers, $10.50 for substitute aides, $11.50 for substitute custodians, $10 for substitute lunchroom workers, $12 for substitute maintenance, $10.50 for substitute secretaries, and $12 for substitute administrative assistants, all effective Jan. 1, 2017.

The human resources plan outlines tools to attract talented staff and keep them in the district, he said.

In other action the board:

•Approved establishing a fund for the Family and Community Engagement Grant and set its appropriations and revenues to $1,500.

•Approved the establishment of the Ohio Small Rural Collaborative Fund and set its appropriations and revenues for $500.

•Approved the advance of $500 from the general fund to the Ohio Small Rural Collaborative Fund.

•Approved membership to the Ohio School Boards Association for calendar year 2017, not to exceed $5,000.

•Accepted the resignation of teacher Johanna Peters, effective Jan. 13, 2017.

•Approved hiring Girls Varsity Soccer Head Coach Tristan Bogan, Girls JV Soccer Assistant Coach Travis Bryant, Girls Varsity Basketball Head Coach Steven Flora, Winter Strength Coach Austin Morgan, Girls Jr. Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach Megan Graves, Boys 8th grade MS Basketball Assistant Coach Austin Morgan, Boys 7th Grade MS Assistant Coach Andrew Hall, Assistant Varsity Wrestling Coach Rick Jordan, MS Wrestling Assistant Coach Jeff Rice, Spring Strength Coach Austin Morgan, all for the 2016-17 school year.

•Approved a resolution authorizing advertising to seek bids for the purchase of two school buses through the Southwestern Ohio Educational Purchasing Council.

•Approved the FCCLA State Conference Overnight Trip to Columbus Dec. 1-3, 2016; and the Graham Ag Ed Ohio Nursery Landscape Midwest Green Industry Xperience Conference trip at the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus Jan 16-18, 2017.

•Approved the superintendent’s annual membership registration to AASA, the School Superintendent’s Association.

•Approved the superintendent’s registration for the AASA National Conference for 2017.
