ST. PARIS – Graham Local Schools’ superintendent search is under way, with the job opening posted on the district website and a completed “superintendent profile” that illustrates what the community and administration seek in an ideal candidate.
The superintendent’s job opened following the resignation of former Superintendent Norm Glismann, who resigned to become the superintendent at Tecumseh Local Schools. Graham’s school board hired Interim Superintendent Matt Curtis to fill in for the current school year and hired K-12 Business Consulting to conduct a search for a permanent superintendent. As part of that contract, the firm held public meetings and met with community members, teachers, staff, students and administrators on what they thought would be ideal qualities for the next superintendent. Those meetings wrapped up last month.
The ideal candidate would have a vision for the district that includes viewpoints of school and community members; is approachable and communicates between all groups; has the skills to help the district improve its report card data and student achievement; and one who will “forge a strong partnership based on mutual trust and respect,” according to the job posting on the district’s web site. These points were highlighted in the superintendent profile developed by K-12’s meetings with various groups.
Each group noted in the superintendent profile that the district has great teachers and staff, great facilities and technology and a great school community. But they also highlighted ongoing concerns about the district’s finances, report card grades and student achievement, and a need for a district vision and strategic plan.
Salary range for the position is $105,000 to $125,000, though that is negotiable based on experience and qualifications, the job posting stated.
Application deadline for superintendent candidates is Jan. 29, and interviews are to take place in February, according to a timeline posted with the job opening. The plan is to have a new superintendent hired in March, but would start Aug. 1, 2016.
