WEST MILTON – The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team is currently in 6th place in the team standings at the Division III district meet.
The Tigers’ 4×800 relay team of Reghan Bieleski, Grace Adams, Payton Umphries, and Taylor Lauck qualified for next week’s regional meet by placing 4th (10:19.35).
Junior Janie Kopus also qualified for the regional meet in the high jump as she tied for 3rd place (4-10).
Qualifying from WL-S for Saturday’s district finals were Katie Hartsel in the 800 (2:36.86), the 4×100 relay team of Umphries, Lauck, Alex Burton and Lydia Moell (52.18), the 4×200 relay team of Umphries, Lauck, Moell and Kopus (1:50.68) and the 4×400 relay team of Kopus, Moell, Umphries, and Lauck (4:16.24).
The top 4 in each event will qualify for next week’s regional meet in Troy. District finals will be held Saturday morning at West Milton.
The WL-S boys are in 12th place at the district track meet.
The 4th place (8:48.61) 4×800 relay team of Michael Conley, Jordan Lewis, Isaac Smith, and Sam Strickland qualified to compete in the regional meet next week at Troy.
“The 4×8 team advancing is exciting; those guys have wanted to make it as a relay to the regional meet for a few years now.” said WL-S Coach Joseph Taylor.
Senior Brandon Wolfe was unable to qualify for his 4th straight regional meet in the long jump due to injury. Wolfe attempted to compete for the first time in over a month, but was unable to perform.
“We will really miss having Brandon around, but we wish him the best as he looks forward to starting college in the fall,” said Taylor.
WL-S will look to qualify more to the regional meet during the district finals here on Saturday. These individuals qualified to run in the finals: 100M dash: Christian Parker (11.79), Ian Wolfe (11.93); 200M dash: Raiph LeVan (22.96), Christian Parker (24.10); 400M dash: Raiph LeVan (51.96); 800M run: Sam Strickland (2:15.07), Michael Conley (2:16.94); 1,600M run: Gavin Harrison (5:18.91) and 4×200 relay: Parker, K. Smith, I. Wolfe, LeVan (1:37.45).
