The Urbana Police Division finished its Safety Town on Friday, complete with a graduation ceremony for the children.

This year’s classes were held on June 5 through 9 and June 12 through 16 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Located in Melvin Miller Park, the program is aimed at children entering kindergarten or ages 4 through 6 and has been in the city since 2012, educating children about safety issues such as Stranger Danger, pool safety, fire safety, traffic safety, bus safety and calling 911.

Urbana Police Sgt. Jason Kizer said community partners such as the Urbana Fire Division, Urbana City Schools, the Champaign County Municipal Court, Columbia Gas and CareFlight assist with the program.

“All the agencies in the county do a great job of helping us put on this event,” Kizer said.
