SPRINGFIELD – Kevin Kite, a 1977 Graham High School graduate, won the senior title at the Springfield City Amateur golf tournament last weekend.

Kite beat eight-time City Am champ Dan Schuler in a four-hole playoff after both shot a 306.

The 56-year-old Kite picked up a golf club only once before his 34th birthday.

12u team tryouts

The Urbana Wildcats 12u girls fast-pitch softball team will be holding tryouts for the 2016 spring season on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon at Melvin Miller Park in Urbana.

Girls may not be more than 12 years of age by Dec. 31, 2015.
