UU splits with Fairmont State

Stefanie Davis sank a pair of free throws with just three seconds left to help Urbana University top visiting Fairmont State, 83-81, on Thursday night at the Grimes Center.

Kennedy Boggs hit a jumper to tie the game at 81-81 with 12 seconds left, then came up with a steal on the ensuing FSU possession to give the Blue Knights the ball.

Davis was fouled and went to the line to sink the game-winning free throws.

All five UU starters reached double figures in scoring led by 21 from Mechanicsburg High School graduate Tori Purk. Davis finished with 18 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Jazmyn Haley had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Boggs and Danie Shafer each had 12 points.

Amanda Ruffner led FSU with 24 points and nine rebounds. Katie Nunan had 15, while Gabrielle Etter and Emily Puskarich each had 12.

In the late game on Thursday night, the 8th-ranked Fairmont State men’s team prevailed, 110-90.

Austin Adams and Carlas Jackson each had 18 points for the Blue Knights.

Both UU teams host Shepherd on Saturday beginning with the women’s game at 2 p.m.
