TROY – The Troy Historical Society will host a presentation on early baseball in Miami County at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21 at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, 301 W. Main St.
Mike Lackey will speak on “Long Bob and the Cincinnati Reds at Midway Park: Big-League Ball in Miami County, 1896.”
Lackey is a longtime newspaper reporter, editor and columnist. He is the author of “Spitballing: The Baseball Days of Long Bob Ewing,” a biography of an Auglaize County native who pitched in the major leagues from 1902 to 1912. The talk will focus on a game Ewing pitched against the Reds when he was with an amateur team from Wapakoneta.
The event is free and open to the public.
