Mechanicsburg ‘chain gang’ honored by OHSAA

The Mechanicsburg High School football “chain gang” volunteers were recently honored by the OHSAA Southwest District for their years of service.

Jim Westfall, Bill Westfall, John Smith and Wayne Russell have volunteered for 25 to 35 years with Smith retiring after 30 years in 2013.

The Westfall brothers, 34 years each, and Russell, 25 years, are all retired from Navistar. Smith is a general contractor.

The “chain gang” was nominated by MHS Athletic Director Coby Wilhelm.

10-u baseball

In 10-u baseball, Mechanicsburg beat Urbana 2, 23-3. Standouts for Mechanicsburg were Aiden Purtee (4 for 4) and Reese Wilson (3-3).

Mechanicsburg defeated North Lewisburg, 17-7. Standouts for Mechanicsburg were Kyran Roland (3 for 3) and Brelyn Fessel (3 for 3).

Markin’s Pump beat Tim’s Towing, 21-20. Standouts for Markin’s were Gavin Geier, Austin karg and Steven Bean. Standouts for Tim’s were Julian Davis, Jackson DeWitt and Jake Reak.

Triad defeated Markin’s Pump, 14-6. Logan Harper, Drake Meadows and Jamiere Wilson were standouts for Triad. Ryland Davis, Garret Kiser and Taren Logwood were standouts for Markin’s.

8-u baseball

Triad beat Trinity Tire, 14-4. Gavin Ridenour was a standout for Trinity.

13-u softball

JWP downed Gates Glass, 18-3.

For JWP, standouts included Morgan Ziegler, Makenzie King, Rachel Bever and Madison Harvel.
