WL-S tops Fort Loramie in non-league baseball

West Liberty-Salem and Fort Loramie traded the lead early in a non-conference baseball matchup on Saturday. West Liberty-Salem took the lead for good in the fourth inning with a four-run outburst and won the game, 8-3.

Levi Moell led the game off with a walk and stole second, Thomas Allen drove him in with a single to right field putting the Tigers up 1-0, but the home team was able to tie the game in the bottom of the frame.

In the bottom of the third, Fort Loramie got back on top after an error, a walk and a base hit off of starter Tyler Louden. Ben Hyland came on in relief of Louden to record the final out. The Tigers came charging back in the top of the fourth with three singles and a double to score four runs in that inning to put them ahead 5-2.

Hyland got the win, allowing three hits over three innings of relief. He also doubled at the plate. Trevor Burden was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Allen was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and Moell was 1-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI.

The Tigers (14-9, 8-3 OHC) will play Northwestern at Graham High School today at 5 p.m. in the sectional tournament.

Triad softball swept

Triad was defeated by Madison, 12-1, and Russia, 4-0, in non-league softball on Saturday.

Against Madison, Madison Dolby was 2-for-2 and Abby Ehrenborg had a triple. The Cardinals allowed six runs in the top of the sixth and got run-ruled.

Triad (14-12) travels to Versailles today for the opening round of the sectional tournament.

UHS tennis places 4th

The Urbana boys tennis team placed 4th at the CBC tournament on Saturday at Northwestern Hhigh School.

At first singles, Nick Pettit (playing for Andrew Fansler) finished 6th.

At second singles, Bailey Ullah finished 3rd.

At thitd singles, Trevor Johnson finished 3rd.

At first doubles, Cole Headlee and Hudson Stouffer finished 6th.

And at second doubles, Alex Swank and Ethan Burnside finished 4th.

If Urbana beats Greenon on Wednesday, UHS will finish tied wth Shawnee for 3rd place in the CBC this season.

The sectional tournament starts today. Johnson will play singles. Fansler and Ullah will play doubles. Both matches are at Northwestern starting at 4:30 p.m.
