Triad nips WL-S in softball

NORTH LEWISBURG – Triad scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat WL-S, 6-5, in OHC softball on Friday.

For the Cardinals, Maddi Collier earned the win, Abby Ehrenborg was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and Gracie Sheets was 3-for-4.

For the Tigers (15-5, 11-2), Kelsey Day was the losing pitcher, Hallie Strapp had two doubles, Kelby Strapp was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Olivia Ames was 2-for-4 with a double.

Triad (14-10, 9-3) plays at Ben Logan on May 3.

M’burg baseball wins

MECHANICSBURG – Mechanicsburg defeated Catholic Central, 8-5, in five innings of OHC baseball on Friday. The game was called due to weather in the bottom of the fifth.

Matt Myers went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Caleb Newsome got the win, striking out nine batters across five innings of work.

M’burg (12-6) is scheduled to host Houston today and travel Hardin Northern on Monday.

M’burg softball prevails

MECHANICSBURG — Mechanicsburg defeated Catholic Central, 12-0, in OHC softball on Friday.

Elysha Stapleton had a double, a triple and 3 RBI to power the Indians’ attack. Mary Mayo was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI, Miranda Lauchard had a double, a triple and 3 RBI, Meagan Hux was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Francys King had a double and an RBI.

M’burg (8-10) plays at Catholic Central on Tuesday.

WL-S baseball wins

WL-S jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in beating Madison Plains, 17-8, in OHC baseball. Trevor Burden provided plenty of offense for the Tigers driving in 4 runs on a triple and a double. Chase Humphrey piled on as well driving in 2 runs on 3 hits. Dillon Callicoat reached base for the 5th straight game in addition to his two hits and an RBI. The Tigers got strong pitching from sophomore Cayden Whitman who earned the win, tossing 5 complete innings and striking out 7.

The Tiger defense was sporadic, allowing 7 runs on 9 errors.

UHS tennis loses

The Urbana boys tennis team lost to Northeastern, 4-1, on Friday in non-league tennis.

At first singles, Andrew Fansler beat Brandon Stokes, 6-4, 7-5.

At second singles, Bailey Ullah lost to Jake Calhoun, 6-0, 6-4.

At third singles, Abe Angles lost to Gabe King, 6-0, 6-4.

At first doubles, Cole Headlee and Jacob Coffey lost to Max Foreman and CJ Parson, 6-2, 6-0.

And at second doubles, Alex Swank and Ethan Burnside lost to Josh Morscher and Josh Calhoun, 6-2, 6-3.

JV1 – Hudson Stouffer lost to Trevor Brown 8-4.

Urbana is now 9-9 overall.

WL-S boys track

The WL-S boys track team competed in the Cardinal Invitational at New Bremen on Friday night. The meet was cancelled after the 4×800 due to storms in the area. Prior to the meet being cancelled, Alex Fitzpatrick placed 3rd in the high jump with a 6-foot jump. The 4×800 relay team of Michael Conley, Jordan Lewis, Isaac Smith, and Sam Strickland placed 5th with a time of 8:49.

WL-S will be back in action on Tuesday at Graham’s 5-team meet.

JH track

The West Liberty-Salem girls track team ran at the Graham Invitational on Thursday, finishing second as a team.

Placing first were Anna McGill, shot put (33-0), Grace Estes, 100 hurdles (17.12) and Madison Bahan, 800 M (2:35.39).
