WL-S girls win five-team meet at Greeneview

JAMESTOWN – The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team won a five-team meet hosted by Greeneview on Tuesday evening.

The Tigers were led by junior Janie Kopus, who won the high jump (5-0) and the 200-meter dash (28.03) and was second in the 400-meter dash (1:02.94).

Lydia Moell won the long jump, Jenna Magnuson won the shot put, Addy Johnson won the 100-meter dash and the 4×200 team (Kopus, Megan Dillon, Moell, Taylor Lauck) and 4×100 team (Paige Shafer, Dillon, Moell, Lauck) also won.

Grace Adams was second in the 1,600 and Moell was second in the 300 hurdles. The 4×800 team of Adams, Payton Umphries, Bianca Reames and Sarah Painter was second.

Earning third were Umphries (400), Katie Hartsel (3,200), Kaylee Harrison (long jump) and the 4×400 team of Umphries, Dillon, Reames and Adams.

WL-S competes at the Anna Rocket Invitational on Saturday, April 8.

The West Liberty-Salem boys track team opened up its season at Greeneview on Tuesday night. WL-S was second with 89 points. Cedarville won with 98 points, Greeneview was 3rd with 83, Dayton Christian was 4th with 31 points and SCC was 5th with 12 points.

Winning individual events for the Tigers were Brandon Wolfe (LJ, 20-1), Alex Fitzpatrick (HJ, 5-0), Noah Smith (3,200M), Sam Strickland (800M) and Ian Wolfe (100M). The 4×1 relay and 4×2 relay (Parker, LeVan, B. Wolfe, I. Wolfe) also placed 1st.

Second-place finishers for the Tigers were Levi Chapman (110H), and Michael Conley (1,600M).

WL-S will be back in action on Saturday at the Versailles Invitational. Field events will begin at 10 a.m.
