BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. – Urbana University shortstop Caitlyn Stoner picked up Mountain East Conference Softball Player of the Week honors, announced Monday by league headquarters.

Stoner, who currently holds the school’s all-time highest career batting average (.371), registered an all-around great effort on the diamond last week by going 8 for 14 (.571) at the plate with a double, three RBI, four runs, five stolen bases and six walks in six games.

The redshirt junior came up clutch last Friday with a pair of walk-off RBI in UU’s sweep over Fairmont State. In the first game against the Falcons, she recorded a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Blue Knights to a 6-5 win. Then in the nightcap, she laced a two-out liner to left field to break a scoreless game in the bottom of the eighth to give UU a 1-0 victory.

After sitting out all of last season, the two-time All-MEC performer has picked up right where she left off in 2015. Stoner is leading the Blue Knights in several offensive categories, hitting .391 with two home runs, 11 RBI and slugging at .674.

UU (7-9, 4-4 MEC) begins a busy week with a conference doubleheader Wednesday at Notre Dame (OH). First pitch in the battle of the Ohio schools is slated for 3 p.m. in South Euclid.

Urbana University’s Jackson Everman has been selected the Mountain East Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday by the league headquarters.

Everman, a senior right hander who boasts a 0.56 ERA, became the school’s D2 career leader in wins (12) by earning victories in his first two starts of the season. The Hilliard native recorded his sixth career complete game in UU’s first MEC win of the season at Concord (10-1) last Monday, allowing one unearned run on four hits and only one hit over the final four frames.

Then, Everman came back with another solid outing Saturday in UU’s 9-4 victory over MEC South preseason favorite West Virginia State. He tossed six innings while scattering five hits and was charged with only one earned run against the Yellow Jackets. Everman registered a combined six strikeouts across 13 innings of work in his two appearances.

UU returns to the diamond Wednesday at Findlay. The non-conference tilt is scheduled for a 4 p.m. first pitch. UU welcomes Glenville State to Blue Knight Field on Friday at 1 p.m. when MEC play resumes.
