WL-S wins sectional; Triad boys win

PITTSBURG – West Liberty-Salem defeated Madison, 54-39, to win a Division III girls basketball sectional at Franklin Monroe on Saturday.

The Tigers fought to a tie at 14-14 after a quarter, but were able to take control by winning the second quarter and led 30-20 at halftime.

For the Tigers, Gabby Hollar broke out with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals – all team highs. Laine Godwin scored 11 points.

The Tigers will play Badin at Springfield High School on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Cardinals advance

PIQUA – Triad defeated Lehman Catholic, 67-62, in the Division IV boys basketball sectional at Piqua on Saturday.

Thomas O’Neal scored 17 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for the Cardinals.

Triad advances to play Fort Loramie on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Piqua.

Falcons fall

SPRINGFIELD – Shawnee defeated Graham, 49-32, in the Division II boys basketball sectional at Springfield on Saturday.

PIQUA – Top-seeded Russia beat Mechanicsburg, 85-26, in the Division IV boys basketball sectional on Saturday.
