Blue Knight women top WSU-Lake

The Urbana University women’s basketball team overpowered the Lakers of Wright State-Lake campus by a final count of 90-39 Monday night in the Grimes Center.

UU, which picked up its sixth win, dominated the boards by holding a 62-30 advantage while limiting WSU-Lake to 25-percent shooting overall. The Blue Knights led 44-22 at halftime and then shifted into higher gear to register an impressive 30-4 margin in the third quarter.

Additionally, the Knights scored 34 points off turnovers and turned 26 offensive rebounds into 30 points.

The Blue Knights improved to 6-18 overall while the Lakers fell to 5-18 following their season finale.

Danie Shafer led all scorers with 20 points and eight rebounds, followed by Megan Beachy with 17 points and seven boards. Morgan Mattimore and Sylvia Hudson each poured in 16 points, while Hudson tied her career high with 18 rebounds to notch her 10th double-double. As a team, UU shot 42 percent overall with 34 made field goals on 82 attempts.

The Lakers were paced by Karri Purdy’s 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting, as the Knights allowed the fewest points in a game all season. UU also held WSU-Lake in check during the previous matchup by giving up just 41 points.

UU hosts West Liberty in the home finale on Thursday evening. Tipoff in the Grimes Center is slated for 5:30 p.m.
