Urbana High School’s Cooper Johnson and West Liberty-Salem’s Trent Schmucker both signed letters of intent on Wednesday to play football at Ohio Dominican University.

Johnson has signed as a place-kicker and punter while Schmucker is a defensive tackle.

Johnson was a standout soccer player for the Hillclimbers for four years, earning All League and All District each season while also being named CBC Athlete of the Year as a junior and earning All-Ohio honors. He holds the single season (18) and career (35) assists records as well as scoring 64 goals during his career. As a junior, he helped the Climbers win their first CBC conference title in school history.

Prior to his sophomore year, Hillclimber football coach Nick Marino asked Johnson to come kick for the team. After a short trial, he earned the place-kicking position and ended up kicking 37/39 on extra points with a single field goal for a senior led team. As a junior, he led the CBC in touchbacks and earned Special Mention All-District.

As a senior, Johnson led the CBC in kickoffs at almost 56 yards per kick.

Schmucker helped lead WL-S to playoff appearances and was a key contributor for the Tigers.
