Pending board approval at the Feb. 21 Urbana Board of Education meeting, Urbana High School will hire Carleton Cotner as head football coach and teacher.

Cotner – an assistant coach at Bellefontaine – will replace Jon Daniels, who went 4-16 in two seasons as UHS head coach.

“Coach Cotner brings a variety of experience in his 26 years of coaching football. He spent 9 years as an assistant at the collegiate level and 11 years as a head coach at two different Ohio high schools besides being an assistant at several Ohio Capital Conference high schools,” said UHS Athletic Director Chuck Raterman.

Cotner was head coach at Ben Logan from 2007-13 and compiled a record of 26-44. His 2010 team went 7-3 and claimed a CBC/MRD co-title.

“After coaching in the same conference, I got to learn about Urbana and I really have a lot of respect for Urbana and its football tradition,” said Cotner. “I’m really exited to be coming in as the head coach at Urbana High School and to be a part of the tradition there.”

Cotner is married and the father of four children.
