NORTH LEWISBURG – Triad defeated Greeneview, 62-51, in OHC boys basketball action Friday night. It was homecoming for Triad.

Greeneview held a slim lead after a quarter at 14-12.

Late in the second quarter, Triad’s Alec Ober made a three-pointer to tie the game and then Ryan Boyd dished to a cutting Thomas O’Neal for the go-ahead basket. Greeneview would nonetheless reclaim the lead and go into the half ahead 29-27.

Triad was up to the task of hanging with the talented Rams, again and again getting good looks with beautiful passing off penetration.

“One thing we’ve been stressing that the kids have been picking up on – making that extra pass,” THS Coach Matt McCurdy said. “When we do that, we’re fun to watch.”

O’Neal put in a couple of quick buckets in the third quarter and gave Triad a lead the Cardinals would not relinquish.

After three quarters, the hosts led 45-35.

The fourth quarter was more of the same, with Triad (9-2, 4-2) making some key free throws down the stretch.

Thomas O’Neal had a game-high 19 points to lead Triad, with Colby Watson piling up 13. Ethan Bradds had 16 points for Greeneview.

“Thomas did a great job competing at the defensive end, too,” McCurdy said. “This had to be his best game of the season. He finished strong at the rim, which is what we want him to do.”

Triad won the jayvee game 41-35. Cameron Atchison had 18 points for Triad in that game.

The Cardinals play at Russia today.
