UU teams to host Notre Dame College today

The Mountain East Conference has three men’s basketball teams ranked in the top six in the country for the second-straight week. Fairmont State remained at No. 2, West Liberty was No. 4 and Wheeling Jesuit is ranked No. 6.

Tonight will mark the midway point in the conference season. Fairmont State is in first place in the MEC with a perfect 10-0 mark. Wheeling Jesuit and West Liberty are just one game back.

Urbana University (8-8, 3-7) will host Notre Dame College at 7:30 p.m. today.

UU is 3-3 after the holiday break, and junior Carlas Jackson has moved into 24th place on UU’s all-time scoring list with 1,077 points.

Jahmere Howze (17.8 ppg) has shot 50 percent or better while posting a team-high point total in four consecutive games, and the Blue Knights are outscoring opponents 747-727 in the second half.

With just one game remaining before the midway point in the season, Wheeling Jesuit is atop the conference’s women’s basketball standings with a 9-1 mark. The Cardinals held off UVa-Wise on Monday evening to take sole possession of first place, but stand just one game ahead of the Cavs and Glenville State.

Urbana University (4-9, 2-8) will host Notre Dame College at 5:30 p.m. today.

The Blue Knights are looking to reverse course after dropping four out of five games.

UU has out-rebounded its opponent in three straight contests (128-96) and ranks ninth in the nation in free-throw percentage (78.4).

Freshman Morgan Mattimore averaged 18.5 points after shooting 13 of 20 (65 percent) in the past two games, and five UU players average double digits on the season.
