Blue Knights sweep visiting West Va. Wesleyan

Urbana University held off visiting West Virginia Wesleyan, 86-61, Tuesday night in men’s basketball.

The Blue Knights trailed, 40-36, at the half.

For UU (6-5, 1-4 MEC), Jahmere Howze had 21 points and 8 rebounds, DeQuan Abrom had 18 points and Carlas Jackson, Dalton Payton and Ethan Snapp each added 10 points.

UU out-rebounded WVWU (5-6, 2-3), 36-23.

The Blue Knights host Glenville State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

In Tuesday’s early game, the UU women secured a 77-65 win over West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Blue Knights (3-5, 1-4) pulled away down the final stretch of the contest to secure the win over the Lady Bobcats (3-5, 3-2).

With the score knotted 19-19 after the first quarter of play, UU fought for a 37-34 lead at halftime.

After taking the advantage, the Blue Knights never looked back and maintained the lead for the remainder of the contest.

Four UU players recorded double-digit scoring performances.

Danie Shafer led the effort with 21 points followed by Jennifer Alflen with 14. Stefanie Davis added 12 points in the win with Megan Beachy notching 11.

UU hosts Glenville State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
