UU women fall to Wright State

DAYTON – The Urbana University women’s basketball team fell to Wright State, 110-60, in an exhibition matchup played inside WSU’s Nutter Center.

Sophomore Megan Beachy and freshman Morgan Mattimore led the Blue Knights in scoring with 12 points each. Beachy heated up toward the end and drained 3 of 6 from beyond the arc while adding three free throws. Mattimore scored a team-high four field goals, dished out a team-best three assists and grabbed five rebounds in her debut.

Junior Stefanie Davis also reached double figures with 11 points and four boards. Freshman Sylvia Hudson and freshman Weston Minnich had six and five points, respectively, as six newcomers saw playing time.

UU was limited to 29.7 percent shooting overall and hit 7 of 23 three-point attempts. The Raiders used their size to dominate the interior, out-scoring the Blue Knights 34-16 in the paint while out-rebounding UU, 57-38. WSU shot 46.8 percent from the floor.

UU opens the regular season when it travels to Wright State University-Lake on Sunday, Nov. 13. Tipoff in Celina, Ohio, is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Triad alumni scrimmage

Triad High School will host an alumni boys basketball scrimmage on Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. The 2016-2017 basketball team will play against a team of alumni. Interested alumni should contact Jason Malone at (937) 869-6744.
