Tecumseh nips Urbana in opener, 61-59

Urbana opened the boys basketball season Tuesday night with a 61-59 loss to visiting Tecumseh in CBC action.

The score was tied, 20-20, at the end of the first quarter, and Urbana led, 33-32, at the half.

The Arrows out-scored UHS in the second half, 29-26.

“It was close all the way,” said Urbana Coach Jeremy Dixon. “We’re disappointed that we lost, but it was a good high school basketball game, especially for the opener. We’ll continue to get better.”

For the Hillclimbers, Jordan Underwood had 22 points, Levi Boettcher had 13 and Najhea Honore added 16 rebounds.

UHS won the jayvee game, 71-50.

For Urbana, Alex Lohnes had 19 points and Dakota Hower and Reid Taylor each had 15.

UHS hosts Graham Friday night.

WL-S falls to KR

WEST LIBERTY – Kenton Ridge nipped WL-S, 53-51, in non-league boys basketball on Tuesday.

The Cougars led, 13-9, at the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers rallied to take a 33-31 lead at the half.

KR led, 43-42, after three periods.

For WL-S (1-1), Kannon Stillings had 14 points, Ross Kelley had 12 and Austin Miller added 12.

WL-S won the jayvee game, 30-25. Max Eggleston had 9 points and Cody King added 8.

Kenton Ridge won the ninth-grade game, 26-24. Kasey Kite had 8 points for the Tigers.

Schedule clarification

The WL-S girls basketball team will host Northeastern on Saturday at WL-S at 6 p.m. WL-S will travel to Northeastern on Jan. 21.

Junior high basketball

The Graham 7th grade girls lost to Shawnee, 19-13. Lexa King had five points for GJHS.
