BRIDEGEPORT, W. Va. – Urbana University men’s soccer players Raphael Northoff and Nathan Jones have been tabbed Mountain East Conference Players of the Week, as determined by league headquarters on Monday.

Northoff, a freshman from Ahlen, Germany, recorded his first hat trick to lead UU to its fifth straight win last Friday in a 5-1 triumph over Concord. Incredibly, the midfielder scored two of his goals from long range including a 25-yard free kick and a 40-yard strike. The newcomer leads UU with seven goals this season and is tied for the team lead with four assists.

Jones earned his third MEC weekly award this season and eighth of his career after improving to 7-1-1 between the pipes. He had three massive saves in a crucial 2-1 win over Notre Dame last Tuesday and didn’t allow a goal during 72 minutes of action against Concord. The senior co-captain has only allowed one goal during the current win streak and is ranked 13th in the nation for save percentage (.841).

UU (8-2-1, 6-2) will host Charleston (10-1, 6-1) with first place in the MEC on the line Wednesday at UU Stadium. Both teams are likely to appear in the NSCAA National Top 25 Poll this week.

Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m., following the women’s matchup on Wednesday.
