Pigskin Picks

Well, it’s been two weeks since the end of the Champaign County Fair, so that can mean only one thing.

It’s time for high school football.

Tonight’s Games

Mechanicsburg at West Jefferson – Mechanicsburg should be very good – no, make that very, very good – this season.

The Indians have their sights set on a state championship, and it just might happen.

West Jeff is usually a tough customer, but we’re going with the Indians to prevail in this one.

West Liberty-Salem at Valley View These teams played a classic opener last year, with Valley View pulling out a 37-31 win at WL-S.

The Tigers should also be very good this season, although they do have a new quarterback in Luke Woods.

This game is a toss-up, but since Valley View is the home team, we’re picking it to win in a thriller.

Urbana at London – The Hillclimbers have a lot of returning starters, but lost last year’s starting quarterback, Levi Boettcher, when he opted to concentrate on basketball.

We’re going with Urbana to prevail, although it might be close.

Tipp at Graham – The Falcons are in rebuilding mode with offensive and defensive lines that have practically no varsity experience.

We’re picking Tipp to win in this one.

Indian Lake at Triad – The Cardinals have a new coach, and will have a lot of new faces at the “skill” positions.

Indian Lake is coming off a playoff season, so we’re picking the Lakers to win.

Thursday’s Game

Urbana U. at Glenville State – The Blue Knights get a prime-time matchup to open the season, but UU may not quite be ready for prime time yet.

We’re going with Glenville State to prevail.
