Urbana to host WL-S in 1st annual Potato Bowl

The first annual Potato Bowl will be held at Urbana High School on Friday at 7 p.m. when the Hillclimbers host West Liberty-Salem in the final football scrimmage.

Urbana Youth Sports will be serving box meals of pork loin, garlic butter potatoes, corn on the cob and a roll for $8 each.

Individual garlic butter potatoes, beverages, candy, popcorn and hot dogs will also be available.

The high school football regular season begins Friday, Aug. 26.

BOSS Summer Run on Saturday

The 39th annual BOSS Summer Run will be held Saturday, Aug. 20 at Lions Park in West Liberty.

The road race, which was founded by former West Liberty-Salem head cross country coach Ken Lehman in 1977, is the oldest road race in Logan and Champaign counties, with proceeds benefitting the West Liberty-Salem Tigers cross country program. The race has grown over the years and now includes a one-mile elementary fun run starting at 8:30 a.m. A 2.4 mile walk, 5K and 10K races start at 9 a.m. The entry fee for the elementary fun run is $5, and $20 for the walk and races if registering on race day. Members of any middle school, high school or college cross country team can participate for $10.

“The BOSS Run is a fun community event and is the official kickoff of the Big Orange Cross Country season,’ said Ann Vogel, head coach of the West Liberty-Salem high school girls team. “We are proud to carry on the winning tradition of the Big Orange and are grateful for our sponsors and volunteers.”

The race is sponsored by the Big Orange Shoe Shop of West Liberty and Reliant Mechanical Inc. of East Liberty. Results of the races will be available at www.tigersrun.com.

Triad golfers fall

Triad lost to Northeastern in OHC boys golf, 171-186, at Woodland on Thursday. Triad was led by Alec Ober with a 43, Derek Bruce had a 46, Caleb Young a 47, Creighton Bradley a 50 and Jacob Greve a 51.
