Indians in last place at state golf tourney

MECHANICSBURG – Mechanicsburg was in 12th place out of 12 teams at the Division III state boys golf tournament at Ohio State University’s Scarlet Course on Friday. The tournament will continue today with another 18-hole round.

The Indians closed with a 394 team score, far behind the 323 that Lancaster’s Fisher Catholic fired to set the pace and 17 strokes behind OHC foe Southeastern, which closed in 11th place.

Caleb Westfall fired an 82 for the team’s low round, with Corey Bogan shooting 98. Seniors Mack Cushman and Cody Minor shot 104 and 111, respectively, and freshman Jack Shoemaker had a 110.

Tigers earn OHC volleyball co-title

With WL-S’s win against Greeneview and Southeastern’s loss to Catholic Central on Thursday night, WL-S will share the Ohio Heritage Conference volleyball title with Southeastern.

WL-S’s conference record was 12-2.

Junior high football

WL-S completed a perfect season by defeating Cedarville, 57-0.

Ethan Cole led the scoring with 2 TD runs and a punt return for a TD. He also kicked an extra point. Zayne Reed had 3 rushing TDs for the Tigers. Other scores included Isaiah McGill with a rushing TD and Matthew Loffing threw a TD pass to Trenton Douthewaithe. Loffing along with Zavier Hall, Noah Cline and Nate Aldo each scored a 2-point conversion.

On defense Kyle Wolfe had a sack and a fumble recovery. Isaac Lee had 2 fumble recoveries. Nick Burden had an interception while Garrett Schoenleben had a sack.

The Tigers finish the season 7-0 and were crowned OHC champs.

Wiffleball tourney

There will be a wiffleball tournament on Oct. 24 at Triad Middle School.
