I was really surprised that Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer didn’t switch to J.T. Barrett at quarterback during the second half of last Saturday’s game at Indiana, particularly when the Buckeyes were in the red zone.
OSU won the game, 34-27, but was fortunate to escape town with its No. 1 ranking intact.
Meyer chose Cardale Jones to be his starter at QB just before the opener at Virginia Tech, and the coach appears to be sticking with his choice through thick and a lot of thin.
Jones missed many open receivers during the Indiana game and threw a bad interception that could have ended up costing his team the victory.
Jones has struggled most of the season so far, playing just well enough for his squad to be undefeated.
There was obviously a reason Barrett was rated above Jones on the depth chart last season.
Maybe Barrett hasn’t fully recovered from his 2014 season-ending injury, but if he has, he needs to get more playing time.
The Cincinnati Bengals are off to a great 4-0 start with the offense and defense both playing well.
Of course, the combined record of the teams Cincinnati has beaten is 6-10, so maybe we shouldn’t get too excited just yet.
Quarterback Andy Dalton seems to have taken his game to another level so far, but it’s doubtful that can last the entire season.
Defensively, the return of Michael Johnson to the defensive line has rejuvenated that unit after a terrible 2014 season.
Hopefully, the Bengals can keep this hot streak going.
A lot of fans are apparently still skeptical since the team rarely sells out a home game.
The Cincinnati Reds, on the other hand, are coming off their worst season in 33 years.
And it may not get better any time soon.
The future looks a bit bleak since Reds’ management doesn’t appear to want to spend the money it will take to field a championship team.
