Both Urbana University soccer teams will begin the 2016 season with back-to-back non-conference games.

On Thursday, Sept. 1, the women’s squad will host Tiffin at UU Stadium, while the men take to the road against Ohio Dominican for the second straight year.

Both squads will play home contests during opening weekend. The Blue Knight women host Lake Erie College on Saturday, Sept. 3 and the men open up the home slate on Sunday, Sept. 4 by welcoming Lock Haven to UU Stadium.

Mountain East Conference play gets under way in the second week of action as the women’s team travels to Charleston on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

The men’s squad will kick off conference play the following day with the much anticipated rematch with 2015 national runner-up Charleston. That contest is set for prime-time viewing and will kick off at 7 p.m. in Charleston, W. Va. – the same place where the Golden Eagles ended the Blue Knights’ dream season last fall in the NCAA Tournament.

September will prove to be a challenging month for the Blue Knight women with four of the next six matches played on the road. The two home contests in that timespan include matchups against Concord (Sept. 15) and Fairmont State (Sept. 25).

On the men’s side, UU will step out of conference play for a home game versus the alma mater of head coach Nick Roberts, Mercyhurst, on Sept. 13. Then the Blue Knights will jump right back into MEC play two days later at home against Concord before ending the month with three consecutive road games.

The conference race will heat up during October with both the men’s and women’s teams hosting six of the final nine games.

Opponents at UU Stadium will include Wheeling Jesuit (Oct. 1), Notre Dame College (Oct. 4), West Liberty (Oct. 9 – women), Charleston (Oct. 12), West Virginia Wesleyan (Oct. 23), and Shepherd (Oct. 30).

Three road games in October will be played at Concord (Oct. 7), Fairmont State (Oct. 20 – women), Gannon (Oct. 20 – men) and Wheeling Jesuit (Oct. 26).

Admission is free for all home soccer games played at UU Stadium, which will also feature live stats and live streaming on UUBlueKnights.com.
