Urbana University’s Nathan Jones is the Mountain East Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Jones, a native of Flintshire, Wales, posted two shutouts in goal for the Blue Knights last week, helping to extend UU’s active win streak to five. Behind the leadership of Jones, who is 4-0 this season, UU is off to its best start since the 2006 Blue Knight squad started off 8-0.

The junior goalkeeper recorded three saves in a 2-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan last Thursday. He continued his dominance with two more saves in a huge 1-0 road win over Mercyhurst this past Sunday.

As UU’s all-time career leader in shutouts, Jones ran his season total to three and now has 13.5 shutouts during his two-plus years wearing Blue and Grey.

Jones is no stranger to weekly awards.

The 6-foot captain won the MEC Defensive Player of the Week once as a sophomore last season, and three times as a freshman in 2013.

UU (5-1-1, 3-1 MEC) returns to the MEC portion of its schedule on Wednesday. The Blue Knights are set to host Shepherd (1-7, 0-4 MEC) at 3:30 p.m. inside UU Stadium.
