WL-S, UHS earn volleyball wins

WL-S defeated Cedarville, 25-23, 25-21, 25-15, in OHC volleyball on Thursday.

For the Tigers (9-2), Jamie Peterson had 13 kills, 5 total blocks, 10 digs and 3 ace serves, Tory Cordell had 8 kills, Kylie Gilroy had 21 assists, Olivia Ames had 7 digs and Kelby Strapp had 6 digs.

Gilroy needs 116 assists to break Kayla Peterson’s WL-S record of 1,725.

WL-S JV jayvees defeated Cedarville, 18-25, 25-20, 25-20. Tyanna Seibert had 6 ace serves, 4 kills and 4 assists, Olivia Milliron had 4 ace serves, Abby Dillon had 6 digs, Arrah Sandy had 4 ace serves, Kaitlyn Chamberlain had 3 kills and Hallie Strapp had 4 assists for the Tigers (9-2).

Hillclimbers prevail in volleyball

Urbana beat Stebbins, 25-11, 25-13, 25-18, in CBC volleyball on Thursday.

Hunter Rogan had 9 kills, Kaelyn Bertsch had 6 kills, Mckenzee Martin had 6 kills and 4 aces and Katy Curnutte added 5 aces for Urbana.

The UHS jayvees also won, 25-10, 25-7.

Lexi Thomas had 5 kills and 7 aces, Desi Johnson had 5 kills and Taylor Adams had 11 assists for UHS.

Urbana’s varsity team (7-5, 3-2) hosts Southeastern in a “Volley for a Cure” match on Saturday.

Triad falls to SE

Triad lost to Southeastern, 25-11, 25-23, 25-14.

For the Cardinals (3-10), Jenna Ober had 18 digs, Madison Dolby had 9 kills and 15 assists and Allyssa Eaton added 7 kills and 6 blocks.

Triad will host Mechanicsburg on Monday.

Triad’s jayvees beat Southeastern, 24-26, 25-23, 25-21. For Triad (5-6, 5-3), Kayleigh Rice had 18 digs, Tori Thomas had 14 digs, 9 points and 6 kills, Kiki Zizzo had 14 digs, Jennifer Sizemore had 11 assists and 22 points and Lauren McCall had 16 points.

Graham golfers 3rd at CBC

FAIRBORN – Graham (358) placed third and Urbana (375) fourth at the CBC/MRD boys golf tournament on Thursday.

For Graham, Alex Jenkins had an MRD-best 77, Matt Goddard a 93, Mark Ward a 94, Jimmy Stickley a 94 and Chasen Poole a 95.

Jenkins and Poole were named first-team All-CBC/MRD and Ward was special mention.

For Urbana, Josh Blakley had an 89, Greg Coffey a 92, Skyler Reisinger a 94, Cole Headlee a 100 and Trenton Dunham a 105.

Blakley and Coffey were each named to the All-CBC/MRD first team.

In the girls’ CBC tournament at Reid Park, Urbana won with a 375. Graham was second with a 455.

For Urbana, Lucy Buckalew carded a 90, Maggie Paulsen shot 91, Liz Wild had a 97, Sidney Flint shot 97, Hannah Flint shot 97 and Gabrielle Pence had a 99.

For Graham, Mollie Greenlee shot 97, Mallory Roberts had a 106, Brandi Powell had a 117 and Sidney Waibel carded a 135.

Buckalew, Sidney Flint, Paulsen and Pence made the First Team for Urbana. Greenlee and Roberts earned the honors for Graham.

Powell landed on the special mention list for Graham and Wild earned it for Urbana.

Indians win Ohio Heritage Tournament

MECHANICSBURG – Mechanicsburg won the boys OHC golf tournament at Indian Springs. The Indians had a 340 team score. West Liberty-Salem was sixth (385) and Triad was seventh (393).

Caleb Westfall (76) and Mack Cushman (78) led the Indians in scoring. Dillon Callicoat (80) and Max Eggleston (91) led the Tigers and Alec Ober (89) and William McDavid (92) led the Cardinals.

Westfall, Cushman and Callicoat were named to the conference’s First Team.

Eggleston and Ober were named to the Second Team and Corey Bogan (MHS) earned honorable mention.

On the girls’ side of things, Triad (469) was third and Mechanicsburg (515) was fourth in the four-team OHC golf tournament.

Macy Linscott (110) and Chasity Curton (117) led the Cardinals.

Sheena Payne (103) and Ashley Bumgardner (123) led the Indians.

Linscott, Curton, Sabrina Thompson and Jess Woodard led the Cardinals in earning second-team honors. Payne was also elected.

Bumgardner and Dodie Howells earned honorable mention for M’burg. Jen Pelfrey made the list for Triad.

WL-S girls soccer wins

West Liberty-Salem defeated Northeastern 4-0.

Dierdre McGill, Annika Wolfe, Madison Oelker and Ashley Rabenstein each scored for the Tigers.

McGill also tallied an assist. Paige Shafer had 4 saves at keeper.

WL-S (10-1-0, 6-1-0 OHC) plays at Anna on Oct. 3.

M’burg girls fall

Greeneview beat Mechanicsburg, 7-0, in OHC girls soccer.

For the Indians, senior captain Sydney Hux had two shots on goal, sophomore Tori Jacobs had two shots on goal and freshman Kameron Loveless had one shot on goal. Senior keeper Chayna Sanford had 27 saves.
