39 Blue Knights to be inducted into NCAHS

A total of 39 Urbana University student-athletes will become the inaugural Blue Knight class inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society (NCAHS), UU Director of Athletics Larry Cox announced on Tuesday.

UU is the 13th college or university in the state of Ohio to join the NCAHS, which recognizes high academic achievers and sport letterwinners at the collegiate level. The NCAHS also encourages good citizenship, moral character and friendship among the high academic achievers in college athletics.

In order to receive membership, student-athletes must fulfill a host of requirements. These include earning a letter in a varsity intercollegiate sport while achieving at least junior academic standing. In addition, the major requirement necessary for the prestigious honor is a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

The 39 inductees from Urbana University represent 14 of the school’s 15 athletic programs with men’s soccer leading the way with six. Football had five make the list, while men’s swimming and softball both had four. Baseball, women’s basketball, women’s cross country and women’s swimming had three representatives each and women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse both had two. Men’s basketball, men’s golf and women’s volleyball each had one honoree.

More than half of these UU student-athletes carry a 3.7 GPA or higher. In addition, five Blue Knights earned a perfect 4.0 GPA.
