Shady Bowl Speedway opener set for Saturday

DeGRAFF – The CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS will return to action this Saturday at Shady Bowl Speedway for their second event of the 2016 season. Saturday’s Shady Bowl 200 will be the first event of the 2016 CRA Street Stock Triple Crown Series that will feature three 200-lap, $3,000-to-win events. The other two events in the Triple Crown will be at Kentucky Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 29 and at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, June 25.

In addition to the $3,000-to-win for each event, there will be a Points Champion from the three events who will receive a $1,000 bonus. Second in points will receive a $500 bonus, then there will be another $500 bonus from a random draw from the cars that attended all three events. Jason Atkinson was the 2014 and 2015 CRA Street Stock Triple Crown Series Champion and the 2014 and 2015 CRA Street Stock Points Champion.

Phantom Racing Gear, the official apparel company of CRA, will debut the 2016 CRA Street Stock Triple Crown Series T-Shirts on Saturday, which will be available for purchase in the pits and behind the main grandstands.

CRA veteran racer Jeff Lane won the series season opener at Lucas Oil Raceway on April 3. With the win Lane comes into Saturday’s race as the series points’ leader. Robert Amos is second in points. Colby Lane, winner of last year’s exciting Triple Crown event at Shady Bowl, is third in points. Mason Keller is fourth in points, while Robert Amos Jr. is fifth in points. All of the top five in points are entered for Saturday’s event.

Also entered is 2014 Shady Bowl 200 winner Josh Poore. Other top CRA Street Stock drivers entered include Jimmy Kirby, James Kirby III, Andrew Teepe, Tyler Marsh, Phil Jenkins, Bryce Schaefer, Larry Lathan, Shawn Smith, Brett Hudson, Ryan Amonett, Jason Drummond, Mike Todd and Nathan Greene. Local drivers entered include Gordon Watson Jr., Ricky Young, Rodney Roush and Jamie Sites.

There is an open practice scheduled for Friday from 3 p.m. until dark. Pit gates open on Saturday at 2 p.m. Practice is set to begin at 4 p.m. with qualifying at 6 p.m. The race program will begin at 7 p.m. and will include the Shady Bowl 200 for the CRA Street Stocks. Also in action will be the Shady Bowl Compacts and Pure Stocks.
