The Urbana Racers rugby team defeated visiting Findlay, 46-24, on Saturday.

Scoring for the Racers were Seth Miller with 3 tries and 3 conversions, Zach Vernon 2 tries, Austin Colvin 1 try and Mark Schaffner and Kyle Duhl each scored their first tries of the season.

“Racer rugby looked like a completely different team than in weeks prior,” said Urbana Coach Thoron Byrd. “They were explosive with the ball, and the defense dominated the entire first half. Urbana’s forwards played excellent in the scrums and line-outs, and the backs out-ran the Findlay defense with ease, spreading the ball quickly and accurately.

Urbana will play the Springfield Reapers on Sunday at the Dayton Rugby Grounds for the first round of the Presidents Cup. Ensuing rounds will be played as Rugby 7s.

The Presidents Cup is an all-day high school rugby tournament, featuring teams from all over central and southern Ohio.

Urbana’s next home match will be April 30 at 1 p.m. against the South Dayton War Pigs.

That will be Urbana’s homecoming match, the last home match depending on playoff home field selection.
