There seems to be some confusion regarding the legality of fires within the City of Urbana. Did you know smoke from recreational fires that is “offensive”or “objectionable” is prohibited under our city’s laws? If smoke from a nearby fire is bothersome, you can report it to law enforcement and expect that it be extinguished as prescribed. The law, including other restrictions, can be cited on the city’s website at http://urbanaohio.com/city-government/ordinances.html under the “FIRE CODE” section, pages 16 and 17. My hope is that once enforced, this law will lower instances of illegal fires in Urbana, lessen the strain on the already limited resources available to our police and fire divisions, and help restore and preserve the quality-of-life and safety of our residents.
