The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations conducted a marijuana eradication in parts of Champaign County Wednesday.
Between April and October each year, BCI agents assist Champaign County deputies and investigators in spotting marijuana grows with the help of a helicopter. That is when growers typically plant and later harvest marijuana. Experts at BCI estimate that a fully mature marijuana plant can be worth between $1,000 and $1,500 once processed and sold on the streets.
Higher quality plants can fetch up to $2,000.
As of Friday morning, 115 plants were taken from area fields and woods. Champaign County investigators are also following leads stemming from their marijuana eradication investigation.
