Seating may still be available for Turner concert

Procrastinators seeking tickets for country music recording artist Josh Turner’s performance at the Champaign County Fair may not be out of luck – quite yet.

Fair Board Entertainment Chairman Todd Dallas said in early July that tickets were still available for grandstand and bleachers, but most of the track seating had been taken.

“We’re not sold out yet, but we’re hoping to sell out,” he said. “We’re expecting to have a great show, and hopefully the weather cooperates with us.”

Turner’s performance will be Aug. 7, the first Friday of fair. The board decided to change the performance date this year to see if it could attract bigger talent. Past performances have been on Mondays.

As part of the change, the fair board added seating on the track. Dallas estimated the change would provide 5,500 seats for the performance. Track seating is the most expensive option for viewing the concert.

Setup for the show will begin Wednesday before fair and wrap up Thursday. Then the extra seating will be taken out Friday evening and Saturday morning to be ready for the truck pull, Dallas said.

This year’s fair will also feature a variety of other entertainment, Dallas said. Those acts include the Wild World of Animals, blending animal diversity and environmental messages, which will perform approximately three times a day during the fair through Tuesday. Also on tap is The Daniel Show, who does juggling, unicycle riding, balloon twisting and more circus-style showmanship. The show will be running from Friday to Tuesday as well, with three to four shows a day, Dallas said.

Tickets for the concert can only be purchased online. Grandstand seating is $20 for reserved seats or general admission bleacher seating. That is on top of the $7 daily admission at the gate to the fair, which includes rides. To purchase tickets, visit the fair’s website at champaigncountyfair.com/events/concert.
