Shooting Academy Matching Funds Drive

Almost daily we read or hear about gun-related accidents or violence and it drowns out all of the positive news about firearm training and shooting activities that we as instructors and sportsmen enjoy.

The Champaign County Shooting Academy is a non-profit charity serving Champaign County and the surrounding area. Founded in October 3, 2017 and approved as a 501(c)(3) August 13, 2018, our mission is to provide facilities to promote firearm and archery safety and marksmanship training programs focusing on youth development organizations, competitive shooting opportunities, hunter education training, access for disabled shooters and women’s programs.

While our long-range goal is to build an indoor firearms range, we are taking advantage of providing facilities as funding becomes available. Two years ago, we opened the Community Archery Park on land leased from the county. It is open to the public year-round and is averaging over 400 registered user each year. This year we have scheduled 4H and Boy Scout programs, Women-on-Target and adaptive shooting clinics, a family archery clinic, 3D archery course and muzzleloading/shotgun sight-in clinic.

Our next goal is to provide a 60×120 foot structure to allow year-round, indoor air gun and archery training for youth, women and adaptive shooting programs, as well as open shooting sessions for experienced archers.

We currently have $75k in pledges for this next phase of construction. The Champaign County Commissioners have made a generous offer of $100k in matching funds to reenergize our fundraising drive and we are excited about achieving our phased goal of $300k for the indoor air gun/archery range. This portion of our project will provide a huge jump in training capabilities and will allow us to operate more advanced programs year-round.

Your pledge will allow us to build upon the success we have experienced with the Community Archery park and allow us to continue providing safety and marksmanship training for current and future generations.

Thank you for your consideration,
