An Urbana man appeared in court Tuesday after he was arrested for a robbery last week.

Scott Eubanks, 35, of 805 S. Edgewood Ave., Urbana, is charged with a second degree felony robbery charge stemming from alleged conduct that took place Feb. 12.

According to information provided by Urbana Police Chief Matt Lingrell, Urbana police were dispatched to a reported car-jacking incident in the 900 block of Lewis B. Moore Drive Friday at 3 a.m.

Officers arrived and found the owner of the vehicle bleeding from injuries to his face, sitting in the car on the wrong side of the roadway facing westbound. A medic unit was requested to the scene to treat the driver for his injuries which included a broken nose.

Speaking with the driver, police learned he was staying at the 68 Motel when he was asked by Eubanks, another motel guest, for a ride to a local store. He agreed to provide a ride for Eubanks and another man with him.

After this stop, Eubanks asked the driver to give him a ride to Springfield and the driver agreed. While en route to Springfield, Eubanks reportedly began to assault the driver in the head and face demanding that he give him the car.

This occurred in the 900 block of the westbound lane of Lewis B. Moore Drive. While the assault occurred inside the moving car, the car began losing control and began skidding on the roadway, leaving the southbound side.

Eubanks allegedly put the car in park as it was moving and removed the keys from the ignition. The driver fought back with Eubanks, who exited the car along with the other man and together they began leaving the area on foot.

At 5:23 a.m., police found Eubanks inside 805 S. Edgewood Ave. and took him into the police division for an interview. Police recovered items of evidentiary value from inside the car and from Eubanks.

Eubanks’ bond was established at $50,000 during an arraignment hearing in the Champaign County Municipal Court. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

Eubanks also faces misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and obstructing official business stemming from a Dec. 24 incident. A jury status conference was scheduled to take place on Tuesday afternoon in this case.
