A man accused of kidnapping two people pleaded guilty to two new felony charges.

Dakota W. Bailey, 19, of North Lewisburg, pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony abduction charges during a final pretrial conference on Friday. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 21. Bailey faces a potential maximum consecutive sentence of 72 months in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Bailey was indicted in December on multiple charges including four first-degree felony kidnapping charges stemming from two incidents in November involving two teenagers.

According to a Champaign County Sheriff’s Office court statement filed in the Champaign County Municipal Court, Bailey threatened to kill a victim on Nov. 24 and placed a gun to his head before assaulting him. The victim stated Bailey kept asking where marijuana valued at $4,000 was.

In a separate incident that also took place on Nov. 24, another victim told law enforcement he was assaulted and had a gun placed to his head while in a vehicle where Bailey reportedly put him in a choke-hold.

This victim, Jordan Edley, 16, was killed in a fire at 122 S. Main St., Woodstock, on Dec. 23, 2015. An investigation into the fire was still open as of Thursday, according to Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Following the two incidents, Bailey was stopped during a traffic stop and law enforcement found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in a vehicle he was driving on Nov. 25.

The new abduction charges Bailey pleaded guilty to were introduced through a bill of information. During the hearing, the issue of language contained in the bill of information detailing Bailey’s conduct was disputed before both parties agreed to amend the document’s language.

As part of the plea resolution, all 12 of the original charges in addition to eight firearm specifications against Bailey were dismissed.

As part of his bond, Bailey was placed on electronic monitored house arrest in December. The court continued this bond conditions on Friday.

In addition to Bailey, Champaign County Prosecutor Kevin Talebi said at the time of the indictment four juveniles were charged in the juvenile court for their involvement in the offense.
