MECHANICSBURG – A single-vehicle crash on Wednesday morning killed one person and injured another, according to information from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred south of Mechanicsburg at approximately 10:49 a.m. According to witnesses at the scene who spoke to investigators, a red 2016 Nissan heading northbound crossed the center line in the 9400 block of state Route 4 and traveled off the left side of the roadway striking a tree.

Derek White, age 26 of West Liberty, was the passenger in the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Kayla Davis-Woods, age 28 of Marysville, was driving the vehicle. She sustained injuries and was transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

It is unknown what caused the crash, which is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Champaign County coroner.

In addition to CareFlight, Mechanicsburg Fire and EMS responded to the crash scene.
