MECHANICSBURG – Mechanicsburg Exempted Village Schools will get a new elementary principal next school year.

Christy Garver will take over the principalship at Dohron Wilson Elementary. She replaces Cathryn Petticrew, who resigned to take a position with the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center (ESC).

The school board approved Petticrew’s resignation and Garver’s hire at its July 13 meeting.

Petticrew’s resignation is effective July 31. She was with Mechanicsburg for four years, according to her resignation letter.

Petticrew will be the director of student achievement for Midwest Regional ESC. The ESC serves Logan, Hardin and Shelby counties.

Garver is a former summer school principal, teacher, coach and instructional leader at Bellefontaine City Schools, according to her resume. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University.

Garver’s salary will be $72,000 for the 2015-16 school year, Treasurer Scott Maruniak said. Petticrew would have been paid $76,500 for the upcoming school year.

The school board also approved a second resolution to put the district’s 1 percent, 10-year income tax renewal levy on the November ballot. The levy brings in approximately $1 million annually, and it expires in December 2016, Maruniak said previously. The board is seeking a 10-year renewal instead of five years to reduce the frequency of asking voters to head to the ballot box. It also saves the district money, as the district shares the cost of elections when it places issues on a ballot.

In other action, the board:

•Approved the Mechanicsburg FFA General Livestock Team trip to Dekalb County, Indiana, to compete in “The Stockman” judging contest Oct. 16-17.

•Approved Property, Fleet and Liability Insurance, effective July 1, 2015, to July 1, 2016, with Ohio School Plan for $38,511.

•Approved participation in the MEC Cooperative Bus Purchasing Program for 2015-16 and authorized the bidding through this program for one 72-passenger conventional school bus, with the board reserving the right to reject any and all bids.

•Approved Level 3 Communications as the low bidder for the phone system upgrade in the amount of $18,829.90.

•Approved ITsavvy LLC as the low bidder for 55 Meraki Access Point units for $33,547, pending federal E-rate reimbursement approval.

•Approved Goldstar Learning for staff software and a document camera for Mastery Manager Subscription Services, at a cost of $13,239.

•Approved Mobile Technical Services as the low bidder to provide internal connections throughout the building in the amount of $60,329.50, pending federal E-rate reimbursement approval.
