Board of Elections certifies Nov. 6 election

The Champaign County Board of Elections met Tuesday to certify results of the Nov. 6 general election. The board reviewed 272 provisional ballots not counted Nov. 6 and accepted all but 37. Those rejected included ballots cast by people not registered in the state and those cast by people told they were not voting at the correct polling site, according to board officials.

The addition of provisional ballots did not change outcomes announced following the election. No races or issues were close enough to spark an automatic recount.

Of those registered to vote in Champaign County, 57.8 percent chose to do so, board numbers indicate. In the November 2016 presidential election, 71 percent of Champaign County voters cast ballots. In the November 2014 election, the last governor’s race, 42 percent of Champaign County voters cast ballots.
