Driver in crash remains hospitalized

A woman pulled from a burning vehicle following a two-vehicle fatal crash Sunday remained hospitalized Monday.

Tressa Wright, 48, was listed in fair condition at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, as of Monday afternoon.

Wright was involved in a crash in the 3800 block of North U.S. Route 68 at 3:17 p.m. Sunday.

An initial investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office found a 1999 Honda Accord driven by Devin Marchal, 16, of West Liberty, was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 68 when his vehicle went left of center and struck Wright’s vehicle, which was traveling northbound.

Upon arrival, the West Liberty Fire Department observed a 2002 Chevy truck fully engulfed in flames. Wright was removed from the vehicle by several individuals who had stopped to assist.

Marchal was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Champaign County Coroner Dr. Joshua Richards. Wright was transported by West Liberty EMS to Grimes Field, where she was flown to Miami Valley Hospital via CareFlight.

The crash remained under investigation as of Monday.
