Champaign County Retired Teachers Association members met at the Church of the Nazarene for their bi-monthly meeting. President of the group, Linda Fullerton, led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. She then introduced Dr. Christopher Washington, Vice President and Provost of Franklin and Urbana Universities.
Dr. Washington held the group’s interest as he spoke of current curricular offerings at UU, planned campus restorative work, and opportunities for community participation.
He mentioned, in particular, the wrestling program, and his plans for further development of the music offerings. He described an upcoming downtown gathering for students and community members.
Dr. Washington was recently featured in the INSPIRE magazine, as a “Notable” in the Ohio State publication.
Asked if he planned to stay in his position during the foreseeable future, he reiterated his joy of serving here and intentions of watching his plans and dreams become reality.
Maginta Grim and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Grim, were introduced by Scholarship Co-Chair Dolly Wisma.
Maginta is this year’s scholarship winner. She shared her plans for the coming year.
The next meeting of the CCRTA will be at the Urbana Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday, August 14 at 11:00 A.M. The attendees will hear fellow-member Glenn Lewis present the history of the Mechanicsburg Schools. Reservations are requested; please contact Pat Detwiler at 465-4446 or [email protected]
