The Gwynne Street water tower could soon be added to an asset protection plan if Urbana City Council approves the measure during its 6 p.m. meeting today in municipal court chambers.
Administration is requesting the water tower be entered into the city’s current master services agreement with Utility Service Company Inc., Atlanta, Georgia, for its long-term care and maintenance.
In May 2015, the city and Utility Service Company reached a similar deal involving the East Lawn Avenue water tower.
Under the proposed contract for the Gwynne Street structure, the city would pay $40,000 in year one and $132,698 per year for years two through six. In contract year seven, the annual cost would be $56,897.
The contract goes on to state that after year seven, the contract shall be subject to an adjustment of up to 5 percent per year.
Also during the meeting, administration will recommend council sign off on the purchase of a new squad for the Urbana Fire Division. If approved, a 2016 Freightliner chassis outfitted with a patient module would be purchased from Horton Emergency Vehicles, Grove City, at a cost of $249,407.
In other administrative matters, council will be asked to authorize a purchase order to Waste Management in the amount of $25,000 in order to offer a curbside community cleanup event to city residents April 12-15.
Following the third and final reading of a ordinance to amend chapter 1339 (nuisances) of the city’s codified ordinances to modify the notification requirements outlined in the chapter, council will hear the second readings of two separate ordinances regarding collective bargaining agreements between the city and Urbana Police Division patrol officers, and the city and UPD sergeants.
The new three-year deals, which can’t be approved until three readings are heard, would result in base wage increases of 1.25 percent in each year of the contracts, a $50 increase in the annual allowance for uniforms from the previous contracts, and an additional personal day for employees who don’t use sick leave in a 12-month calendar year.
Second readings will take place on the following measures:
•A resolution authorizing the director of administration to submit an application to the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Small City Program for improvements to the Monument Square roundabout.
•A resolution authorizing the director of finance to transfer and appropriate $62,000 from the the Community Development Block Grant Housing Revolving Loan Fund, awarded to the city by the Ohio Development Services Agency, to a fund set up to cover the costs associated with the upcoming North Oakland Street Curbs and Walks Phase 1 Project.
The lone first reading scheduled to be heard by council involves a ceremonial resolution in support of the city of Bellefontaine’s application for funding to pave the northern extension of the Simon Kenton Trail.
